Rivers, Rain, and Backroads

Had a great day. Saw three amazing rivers, got got in three torrential rainstorms, with drizzle in between - and drove some fantastic roads through some really pretty country.

Up and at it early - wanted to wash the bike. That may have been a curse. Not 2 km later - construction - mud all over the nice clean bike. Oh well. The rainwashed ost of the mud off later in the morning :-)

Caught the Trois-Pistoles to Les Escoumins Ferry in the nice bright sun.

Even saw a whale

And that is it for photos. Because I had my rain gear on for the rest of the day. Road through some torrential rain and a lot of drizzle. Got a fair bit of sun in the early afternoon - but then the drizzle came back often with the sun shining.

Be that as it may - it was a fantastic ride. This is the basic route. The ride along 138 is very pretty - some good views of the St Lawrence. Would have stopped a few times if better weather.

Then - up 172. I wish it had not been raining. It was a fantastic ride in the rain - and I think it would have been even more amazing if it had not been raining. Incredibly pretty - big mountains and cliff - and - you basically follow the Rivière Saguenay - so pretty. If the weather had been better - it would have been hard to decide if I should stop for a ton of photos or pick up the pace for a more spirited ride - it was great as it was - and either of the other options would have also been fun.

Then down 155. This is almost as good as 172. So pretty - and guess what -another river - Rivière Saint-Maurice. The rule seems to hold - any road the follows a shoreline or river is bound to be pretty and fun to ride.

At Shawinigan - off we went on the 3xx back road highways headed towards Mont Tremblant. Wow - great call - pretty pretty country - and some really fun roads - lots of curves and vertical interspersed with tons of little towns. So much fun. This is real farm country - the small farm - so very cool. You feel like you have gone back in time.

I ended in  St-Côme - it was 20:00 - getting very dark - I was exhausted.I spotted the Motel Saint-Côme - and checked in. Ran across the parking lot and had a fantastic fish and chips dinner at the Resto-Bar Terrasse L'entité.

Great day - when we do the Labrador trip - I would like to include this as a day on the way out or back.

I need some sleep. Up in the morning - plan out the next leg - and then execute!
