Getting Ready for the Three Ocean Tour

Saturday March 25, 2017

Many who know me will have heard me talk about the "Three Ocean Tour" over the last couple of years. Well, it is going to happen this summer. If you want to know what is going on - then subscribe to this blog.
Route Overview
My brother-in-law Laurence, "Lol" Gray plans to come with me -that will be great! Lol is still in the process of picking his vehicle for the trip - it will be 4 wheels. I am going to ride the FJR-1300 that I bought last summer.

The prime objective of the trip is to visit all 3 oceans that Canada has on its boarder. Also - visit the 10 provincial capitals - and the 2 territorial capitals which are reachable by road.

Since we are going to be in the area - it just makes sense to get as far East (Cape Spears, NL) and as far West (Anchor Point, AK) as you can by road.

The rough map above is a summary from Garmin Basecamp. The route needs more details sorted out - but this is the rough outline.

The idea is to do the trip in 3 months. I figure we should be able to average 500 km days. I think we want to allow for lots of days where we are not driving. So - figure travel for 60 out of the 90 days. That means we have a budget of about 30,000 km. Well, guess what - the rough route sketch works out to - 32,085 km.

SO - we might have to trim this a bit - but I think the rough outline makes sense. Lots of things to think about - and lots of time to do the thinking. The plan is to leave Toronto around June 1st and be back in early September. Stay tuned for more information.

Things to consider:

  • Would love to fly to Iqaluit - that way we make it to all the capitals
  • As a child -in about 1960 - my Mom & Dad drove overland from Edmonton to Bella Coola. I was about 4 years old - and have clear memories from this trip. Would love to see some of those places again!
