Two Great Days in Whitehorse

Had a heck of a time with the internet last night - so will hopefully have better connectivity tonight - and will tell you the 2 day story.

Like I said yesterday - a highlight for me was the midnight sun on Wed night at about 23:45. I really like this picture.

At the same time - I could not resist a photo of a seagull sitting on the nose of a mythological bird at the top of a totem pole with the moon in the background.

Good night's sleep, then in the morning, off to the Yukon transport museum - loved this old DC3 - it is a great museum

LOL - I think we have been known to use a bottle of rum in similar fashion!

No idea what this huge machine is / was used for - anybody got a clue?

The paddlewheeler SS Klondike

I liked this raven steals the sun story. Sounds like a reasonable cosmology to me. But - I think I prefer MOND.

More of the  SS Klondike

This was pretty cool. As part of the Adäka Cultural Festival - several types of watercraft were  run down the river. This is a birchbark canoe.

A sealskin kayak

Two dugout canoes

A war canoe

A raft

The Whitehorse Cenotaph

One of the very cool exhibits at the MacBride Museum of Yukon History.

So, we picked up Kim at around 20:50 at the airport, got her checked in and me moved to her room - and went to the two best pubs we have found in Whitehorse for a drink at each. First, we went to the Woodcutters Blanket - which is a fantastic place for a cocktail. Then, over to the Dirty Northern Public House for some munchies and another drink

We all slept in - grabbed a nice breakfast at the Baked Café + Bakery and then off for a bicycle tour

Saw the war canoe from yesterday up close - cool

The dam and fish ladder were really cool

Another view of the the SS Klondike

And that is it so far. Look for a dinner report to be included in tomorrow's update!

[[Updated 2017-07-11]]

I forgot to include how our Friday evening went! So - updating this entry to include that info.

We had dinner at Klondike Rib & Salmon. Kim's fish was OK, but neither Laurance or I liked the elk stew - it was not very good.

Then - we went to visit Kim's friend Barbara and her husband Dave who are long-time Whitehorse residents. We had a lovely homemade Fruit Crisp (rhubarb &  cranberries), a couple of drinks, and a great chat about Yukon as well as other parts of the world. A very enjoyable evening.
