Peace Country Baby, Peace Country

Had a great day driving through Peace Country today - from High Level to Dawson Creek. You start at High Level at 320 m or so altitude. Then you gradually climb up over 600 m until you dip down near the town of Peace River -and then you climb back up.

When you come down the next time where Highway 2 crosses the Peace - are you in for a treat. The views driving down into the river valley and then back out was without a doubt the highlight of the day. There were incredible. But - no safe places to pull over to take photos. It looks like construction on the south side of the valley to remedy this in the near future - good. Here are the photos I got.

So, up out of the valley, down 2 a ways, and then west across Highway 49. At one point - we crossed through 810 m altitude. The first time on the trip we have cracked 800 m. the Such pretty country.

We saw a scenic lookout sigh - and deeked up to McQueen's Slough for  a look.

The photo does not do it justice - put this is a shot of the high prairie country in the area.

Down into Dawson Creek - into the Info Centre- and a peak at the old railroad station.

And of course- some pictures of Mile 0.

Off for a really great dinner at Browns Socialhouse. Turns or this is a chain - and a really good one - great food, great staff, great ambiance -and really reasonable prices. Another great meal!

Then - just touring around - cattle and horses on this ranch - and the  sign says buffalo - but we did not see any.

Oh - and great weather again today. We did have a line of thunderstorms go over   = a few drops of rain - but we were really already parked for  the day - so I am going to call it a rain free day.

So - tomorrow - we are off up the Alaska Highway. Very excited!
